On November 17th, the United States Mint ET released four new products, including two coins from the Royal Mint.These products are to commemorate the 1620 sailing of the Mayflower bringing Pilgrims from England to the New World.

Included in this Mayflower 400th anniversary edition are gold coins, a silver coin and silver medals. They are each in proof or reverse proof finish which are all issued in limited mintages.

The United States Mint Mayflower 400th Anniversary edition products are a wonderful array of coins and medals minted to commemorate a transatlantic journey of the Mayflower and its landing in the New World in 1620.

 

The four Mayflower edition products include:

– Joint 2020 Mayflower 400th Anniversary Two-Coin Gold Proof Set including a proof coin from the U.S. Mint and a proof coin from The Royal Mint. Both coins are composed from 1/4-ounce of .9999 fine gold.
– U.S. Mint 2020 Mayflower 400th Anniversary Reverse Proof Gold Coin which has the same designs and major specifications as the one within the joint two-coin set, however, its finish is reverse proof.
– Joint 2020 Mayflower 400th Anniversary Proof Silver Coin and Medal Set with a proof medal from the U.S. Mint and a proof coin from The Royal Mint.
– U.S. Mint 2020 Mayflower 400th Anniversary Reverse Proof Silver Medal which has the same designs and major specifications as the one within the just mentioned set, however, its finish is reverse proof.

As described, the joint sets include collectibles in proof finish while the two individually sold products are in reverse proof finish.

Mayflower Gold Coins Designs:

The Royal Mint proof £25 gold coin obverse displays the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty The Queen. This design was created by Jody Clark and has appeared on UK coins since 2015. Inscriptions read “ELIZABETH II”, “25 Pounds” and “D G REGINA.”

The reverse (tails side) of the coin depicts the Mayflower sailing through the rough seas. This represents the sheer determination of the passengers and crew. Inscriptions include “MAYFLOWER”, “1620,” and “2020,”.

For the U.S. Mint $10 gold coin obverses — both the proof from the two-coin set and the individually sold reverse proof, we find a Wampanoag family watching as the Mayflower arrives to the New World. Inscriptions include “$10”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “PATUXET,”.

On the reverse of the coins is a Pilgrim man and woman. A pair of mayflower blossoms is also displayed. Inscriptions are “PLYMOUTH”, “1620,” “2020,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “UNITED STATES” and “AU 24K 1/4 OZ.”.

Chris Costello, United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist created the obverse and reverse designs of the U.S. Mint’s gold, including the reverse of The Royal Mint’s gold coin too. Phebe Hemphill, United States Mint Medallic Artist sculpted the U.S. Mint’s gold coin obverse and the reverse was sculpted by Joseph Menna, United States Mint Medallic Artist.

Mayflower Silver Coin and Silver Medal Designs:

On the obverse of The Royal Mint £2 silver coin, the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II can be seen again. we once again see the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include “ELIZABETH II”, “2 POUNDS,” and “D G REGINA.”

The reverse is also similar to its gold counterpart, showing the Mayflower in rough seas. Inscriptions include “MAYFLOWER”, “1620,” and “2020,”.

The U.S. Mint silver medal obverses — both the proof in the set and the individually sold reverse proof show an illustration of a Mayflower family battling against the cold and windy weather with the ship anchored beyond. A pair of mayflower blossoms flank the design. Inscriptions comprise of “A CIVIL BODY POLITICK”, “MAYFLOWER COMPACT” and “1620-2020”.

On their reverses, a Wampanoag man and woman employing a planting technique of their people can be seen. Inscriptions around the design are “PEOPLE of THE DAWN’ and “SUSTAINERS OF LIFE”.

Chris Costello, United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Artist created the obverse and reverse designs of the U.S. Mint’s silver medals and the reverse of The Royal Mint’s silver coin too. Renata Gordon, United States Mint Medallic Artist sculpted the U.S. Mint’s silver medal obverse. Its reverse was sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, United States Mint Medallic Artist.
