B and G Coins was originally founded in 1977 by Paul (Arne) Baker and Nicholas (Nick) George.

Nick had been collecting coins since he was about 6 years of age and remembers ‘helping’ his aunty sort through the day’s silver takings (she was landlady of the Fisheries Inn) checking for older coins of which if you were lucky, you could still find the odd Victorian coin in those days.

In the early days we exhibited at the National Motorcycle Museum Fair, The Cumberland Hotel at Marble Arch and the Strathmore Hotel at Luton, mainly buying stock from local auctions and at the Fairs.

It was at these Fairs that we learnt our trade and got to meet some numismatic legends from whom we learnt so much about the trade.

With the advent of the World Wide Web and the birth of eBay, B and G Coins went digital, initially joining eBay in 2001. As we grew, we left the difficulties of dealing on eBay behind and invested in our own web shop.
And with thanks to our fabulous IT partners we currently receive 28,000 visits each month to bandgcoins.co.uk.

Partnering with the independent rating company TrustPilot, we believe, our five-star rating and 100% customer service and satisfaction rating, speaks firmly for itself.

The whole dynamics of our business has changed and whilst we still regularly attend our favourite Quarterly Fair at the National Motorcycle museum, we now buy 70% of our stock directly from the public.

Nick who is an Ancient and Medieval Historian by education, is a long standing Fellow of the Royal Numismatic Society and a regular contributor to the BBC Local Radio network. He also acts as external consultant to well-known Auctioneers and museums and has been asked to consult for BBC TV.
