The British trade dollar was produced from 1895 to 1935 to facilitate trade in the Far East (Hong-Kong and the Straits Settlements). In 1903 the Straits Settlement Dollar was introduced, and the trade dollar was gradually replaced but continued to be used in Hong-Kong.
These were produced by the Bombay, Calcutta and the Royal Mint (London) mints.
In 1937 it was demonetized.
Due to its exceptional design they remain very popular with collectors today.
