B and G Coins was originally founded in 1977 by Paul Baker and Nick George
From coin collecting Nick was to learn all his dates and monarchs in history. This helped him with history exams at school and later for his PhD in Ancient and Medieval History.
In the early days we exhibited at the National Motorcycle Museum, The Cumberland Hotel Marble Arch and Strathmore Hotel Luton fairs. It was here that we learnt our trade.
With the advent of the Web, B and G Coins went digital, the webshop was born.
We are proud to maintain a 5-star rating for Both B and G Coins and The Watchaholic Co. (added in 2022), on both TrustPilot and Google platforms.
Now in our 49th year, Nicks global reputation has seen him doing many BBC broadcasts on coins and work with Auction Houses, Museums, insurers, Solicitors and the Police Art squad.
What we deal in
British coins from the Celtic and Anglo-Saxon periods, through the hammered and milled series, to modern proof issues, alongside world coins, historic medals, tokens and banknotes. We handle single pieces and whole collections. Everything we offer is individually photographed and described rather than sold from a stock photograph, and we are always interested in buying good quality material.
Beyond the shop
Nick is a Fellow of the Royal Numismatic Society and carries professional indemnity insurance. Alongside the website we prepare probate valuations at open market value for solicitors, executors and administrators, and insurance valuations stating replacement cost. We are the official UK agents for coins and medals to Lockdales Auctioneers, and act as numismatic consultants to museums, insurers and the antiques trade. Buying and selling with us
Identification and an indication of value cost nothing. Send photographs of both sides of a piece through our free online valuation service and we will tell you what you have, with no charge and no obligation. You can also identify something yourself in seconds using Coin Finder, our own identification tool. When you are ready to sell, we buy outright, or list items for you through the shop for a percentage agreed in advance and payable only on a successful sale.
