The Anglo-Portuguese Alliance: The oldest diplomatic alliance in the world that is still in force today, between the United Kingdom and Portugal. The alliance began in 1372 with the signing of the Treaty of Tagilde, and was formally established in 1373 with the Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Alliance at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The alliance has been renewed several times over the centuries and has served both countries throughout their military histories. In June 2023, the UK and Portugal celebrated the 650-year-old alliance with a joint military parade.
